Kenya eTA requirements from Nigeria
Kenya no longer issues conventional visas — since 2024 it uses an electronic travel authorisation, applied for online before departure. It is quicker and cheaper than a consular visa, but it is not automatic and it is not issued at the airport: an approved eTA has to exist before you board. A yellow fever certificate is also expected of travellers arriving from Nigeria.

What actually decides a Kenya application
Nairobi is a working destination first. Conferences, NGO and development work, regional head offices, and increasingly a safari or coastal leg attached to the end of a business trip. Kenya Airways flies Lagos to Nairobi nonstop, which makes a short same-week trip genuinely practical — and that in turn makes the eTA's short lead time useful rather than merely convenient.
An eTA is a permission, not a formality
It is applied for and approved before you fly, and it can be refused. Do not treat it as something to sort out at the airport — you will not be boarded without it.

Nairobi is a good onward hub — say so when booking
If your trip continues to Kigali, Kampala, Dar es Salaam or Zanzibar, a single through ticket from Lagos is normally cheaper and always safer than buying the second leg separately.
