What flying Lagos to Toronto actually looks like

Toronto carries a lot of Nigerian traffic — students, family visits and permanent moves — and it is one of the routes where people most often book far in advance and travel with a great deal of baggage. Both of those are worth planning around, because the cheapest fare and the fare with a usable baggage allowance are not always the same one.

There is no nonstop from Lagos, so every itinerary changes once, most commonly in Doha, Casablanca, Addis Ababa, Cairo, Paris or Amsterdam. The fastest we see is a little over eighteen hours end to end. If you are moving rather than visiting, tell us — the allowance, not the headline fare, is usually what decides the right ticket.

No nonstop service. Around 18h at best with one change in the Gulf, North Africa or Europe; longer where the layover is overnight.

Before you book Lagos to Toronto

Canada requires a visa or eTA before departure

Nigerian passport holders need a visitor visa. Processing has been slow at times, so treat the visa as the gating item and book flexible or refundable travel until it is issued.

Baggage matters more than usual on this route

If you are relocating or studying, compare fare families on total allowance rather than headline price. A ticket ₦80,000 dearer that carries an extra bag is usually the cheaper trip.

Watch the layover length in winter

North Atlantic connections in December and January are the ones most likely to be disrupted by weather. A slightly longer connection is a better bet than the tightest one on the board.
